Full technical guide
Detailed technical instructions on the set-up of our feeds can be found here:
PUSH/PULL feeds workflow
Please align with your contact person if you want to deviate from these flows.
PUSH: A push feed integration assumes that the system of the customer sends the offers to StepStone sites using XML format. Possible actions are INSERT, OFFLINE, UPDATE. Standard integration automatically puts an offer offline after expiry date.
PULL: The list of vacancies available is downloaded and compared to the content of the StepStone site for the given customer. Each job ad is examined, and the decision is made whether the job ad is new, was updated or deleted or should be ignored as nothing has been changed. In short, if a job appears in the list provided, it is added to the StepStone site, if a job is removed from the list, it is taken offline from the StepStone site. If a job is updated, the update will be reflected on the StepStone site.

Lay-out and content
We ask for the use of structured job ads and advise to maximize the use of available text fields. We offer 5 different fields (Introduction, Tasks, Profile, Offer, Contact) to which your content can be mapped. The use of the fields “Tasks” and “Profile” are mandatory.
Categorization
The selected values will define which candidates you will attract. We advise to correctly use all available criteria to ensure the right match with potential candidates.
<workfield> Represents the job functions such as Marketing Manager, Electrician, Secretarial etc. Multiple workfield values are allowed in a single offer as job ads may cover more than one function. We advise to limit the number of values for workfield to 1 or 2.
<geography> Represents location of the job, both countries and their regions are included for all StepStone countries.
<sector> Describes a particular company’s or job’s sector such as IT & Internet, Public Services or Wholesale and Retail Trade. Most commonly this will be only 1 sector.
<contracttype> Represents the type of contract such as a Permanent contract with an unspecified time duration, Temporary, Freelance etc.
<worktype> States whether the job is full time or part time. Represents the experience level that is expected from the candidate.

Joblocation – Google Maps – Commute time
We emphasize the importance of a full address (country, zip code, city, street, building number) that is to be shared with each job ad. Please ask feedback of us to ensure that we receive all necessary information.
Quality checking
To ensure quality and performance of the job ads that appear on our websites, each job ad is verified by the StepStone Quality Check. The role of the StepStone Quality Check is to verify and fix categorization. It is important to note that based on feed configuration, it may happen that the UPDATE action won’t change categorization. E.g. the sector of a job is considered not to change. Please contact us if a change in the categorization is necessary.
Offline notification
Please inform us if you want to enable the use of an offline notification by e-mail. This way you will be notified in advance when a job ad is close to its expiry date.
Job ad branding
Different options (header images, color, video, etc.) are possible depending on the contract and/or the multiposting tool that is used. A default set-up is possible, but there can also be customized use based on the data of the feed. Please align on this with your contact person.
StepStone BE/NL Company Hub
The Company Hub, a company presentation linked to each job ad, is a feature that is set up independently from the Jobfeed settings. To optimize the Company Hub please provide us the tools needed: pictures, company information, website, contact details, …
StepStone BE/NL best practices
Detailed quality advise can be found here:
https://www.stepstone.be/recruiters/the-perfect-job-ad
- Use the correct function title, no M/F/X, no additional information, and this to make optimal use of our search & match technology.
- No company information should be mentioned in the “Introduction”, we therefore refer to the Company Hub. A short introduction about the department / or one sentence of the company can be allowed. A short introduction of the job or working place is always appreciated.
- Use bullet points, over 50% of our candidates search via mobile.
- Always use a zip code in the job locations. It is important for Google Maps, for our commute Time feature and to optimize the job ad on partner websites like VDAB, le Forem,…
Please feel free to address your contact person at StepStone for any further explanation on any of the above-mentioned topics.
